FAQ

About The Academy

What is Bharathanjali and where are you located?
Bharathanjali is one of Abu Dhabi’s leading classical dance academies, dedicated to authentic training in Indian classical arts. We operate two studios — our main centre in Abu Dhabi at the Kerala Social Centre, and a fully equipped branch in Musaffah — making us accessible to students across the city and surrounding areas.
Bharathanjali has been serving the classical arts community in Abu Dhabi since 2006 — nearly two decades of shaping students across all age groups. Our longevity in the UAE reflects the trust that families and students have placed in our teaching standards and artistic values.
Bharathanjali was founded by Smt. Priya Manoj, an accomplished classical dancer trained in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi under some of India’s most celebrated gurus — including Padmashri Kalamandalam Kshemavathy and Kalakshetra Haripadman. She established the academy in 2006 as a cultural mission, not merely a school.
We are not a commercial dance studio offering a range of popular genres — we are a classical arts institution with a singular, devoted focus. Every faculty member is a trained specialist in their discipline. We follow the authentic guru–shishya tradition, which means personal attention, cultural depth, and a genuine relationship between teacher and student that extends far beyond the studio.
Yes — our Musaffah branch offers the same curriculum, the same faculty standards, and the same quality of classical training as our Abu Dhabi centre. Both locations are overseen by Smt. Priya Manoj to ensure complete consistency and excellence.

About The Dance Forms

Which dance forms does Bharathanjali offer?
We offer training in three of India’s most celebrated classical dance traditions: Bharatanatyam (Kalakshetra style, Tamil Nadu), Mohiniyattam (Kerala), and Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh). We also offer Carnatic Music, Yoga, and Arts & Drawing as complementary disciplines.Bharathanjali is one of Abu Dhabi’s leading classical dance academies, dedicated to authentic training in Indian classical arts. We operate two studios — our main centre in Abu Dhabi at the Kerala Social Centre, and a fully equipped branch in Musaffah — making us accessible to students across the city and surrounding areas.
Each form has a distinct character and origin. Bharatanatyam is angular, precise, and devotional — born in the temples of Tamil Nadu. Mohiniyattam is fluid, lyrical, and feminine — a reflection of Kerala’s landscape and spirit. Kuchipudi is dramatic and narrative-driven — rooted in devotional storytelling from Andhra Pradesh. All three share the foundation of classical Indian aesthetics but speak in entirely different artistic languages.
Kalakshetra is one of India’s most prestigious classical arts institutions, founded in Chennai in 1936. The Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam is known for its purity, geometric precision, and deep fidelity to classical tradition — one of the most respected schools of Bharatanatyam in the world, and the lineage we follow at Bharathanjali.
An Arangetram is the formal first solo performance of a classical dancer — a milestone of profound cultural and personal significance. After years of dedicated training, the student presents a full programme of classical items before a formal audience, supported by a live orchestra. At Bharathanjali, each Arangetram is prepared with the utmost care and presented as the ceremonial occasion it truly deserves to be.
Mohiniyattam is a dance form rooted in feminine expression and is traditionally performed by women. However, we welcome enquiries from all students and our faculty will be happy to discuss the most suitable dance form for each individual based on their interests and goals.

Enrolment & Admissions

How often are classes held and how long is each session?
Class frequency and duration vary by programme and level. Please contact us directly for the current timetable at both our Abu Dhabi and Musaffah locations, as schedules are updated seasonally.
Yes — performance is central to our philosophy. Students participate in cultural events, annual programmes, competitions, and recitals throughout the year. For dedicated students, the pinnacle is the Arangetram — the formal solo debut that marks a dancer’s arrival as a complete classical artist.
Yes — particularly for Mohiniyattam training and for all major performances including Arangetrams. Performing alongside live Carnatic musicians is an essential part of classical dance training and one of the hallmarks of a truly authentic classical arts institution. Bharathanjali maintains an experienced orchestra team for this purpose.
For early levels, comfortable and flexible clothing is suitable. As students progress, specific classical dance attire may be required — such as the traditional practice costume for Bharatanatyam or Mohiniyattam. Your instructor will guide you at the appropriate stage.
We understand the importance of finding the right environment for your child or yourself. Please reach out to us to discuss observation arrangements — we will do our best to accommodate your request and ensure you feel fully informed and comfortable before making any commitment.

Classes & Training

Are Bharathanjali classes suitable for beginners?
Yes. Bharathanjali welcomes beginners of all ages. Whether your child is taking their first steps into classical dance or you’re an adult returning to a lifelong passion, our structured training and supportive teachers ensure every student learns with confidence and joy.
We generally recommend children begin from the age of five or six, when they have the physical coordination and attention span to benefit from structured classical training. That said, we assess each child individually — please reach out if you are unsure whether your child is ready.
You can register by contacting us via WhatsApp at +971 50 596 8571, by emailing info@bharathanjali.com, or through the contact form on our website. We will respond within one working day and guide you through the enrolment process.
Absolutely not. Our foundational levels are designed specifically for complete beginners — children and adults alike. All you need to bring is genuine interest and willingness to learn. The rest, we will guide you through with patience and care.
Students are placed in levels based on their age, physical readiness, and existing experience. Progression between levels is guided by the teacher and confirmed through structured assessments at each stage — ensuring every student advances with a solid, genuine foundation.
